HSVA’s first time: A tank inside a tank!

While we typically have all kinds of structures and ships floating in our tanks, one may be confused to see we now have a tank inside one of our tanks.

Within the European Community’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation – HYDRALAB-PLUS Program a project called „Internal Wave Dynamics in the Marginal Ice Zone, was granted access to HSVA’s ARCTECLAB Facilities.

Now a group of researchers from all over Europe is working in HSVA’s Arctic Environmental Test Basin (AETB) to investigate how internal waves influence the ice in the marginal ice zone and vice versa. To investigate this phenomenon a flume that allows visualizing internal waves from the side was built inside the AETB.

While the preparations have been finalized now everybody is excited to see the first internal wave running under ice in a laboratory environment!

We will keep you updated!
