twin-crp-pod ULCS is short for: Application of hybrid CRP-POD propulsors on ultra large twin screw containerships to increase propulsive efficiency, reduce GHG emissions and improve navigational safety.
The overall goal of the project is to minimise fuel consumption, improve manoeuvring abilities and increase navigational safety by introducing three high-efficiency innovations to Ultra Large Container Ships (ULCS): twin propeller configuration, pod propulsors and contra rotating propellers concept. The project will be realized during a three-year period, starting from September 1, 2020. Within the project, HSVA will enhance the comparative propulsion testing method in HYKAT to assess unconventional arrangements like the twin-crp-pod or others. This will expand HSVA’s service portfolio. More details including all partners can be found in the coming NewsWave. This project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (reference number 03SX520A).
