Reduction of Required Minimum Engine Power to Receive Baltice Ice Class

Did you know that there are possibilities to reduce the minimum engine power required for ice class approval? It is possible to receive an Ice Class (IA, IB or IC) approval based on brash ice model tests in HSVA’s large ice model basin. For single cases (ship types) even a pure theoretic brash ice performance prediction based on direct propulsion calculation and resistance formula can be already regarded as sufficient by reviewing authorities. The reduction in power compared to a standard rules calculation is on average between 20 and 50 %.
